Moonspell return with another powerful and emotional album. However, this release is a little more melodic than their past efforts. The pace of the songs are a bit slower. Overall the songs here have a Type O Negative sound to them. Dark and haunting with deep male vocals and bursts of aggression every now and again. There are dreary moods mixed with anger. A female choir is included in the background of some of the tracks. Guitar, bass and drums create this music for the most part. However, there are keyboard melodies mixed into the song structures as well. Songs such as "Eurotica" and "Dekadance" have a lot of electronic programming in them that adds a nice touch to the music. This album delivers dark, dramatic and melodic music combined with passion, emotion and harmony. There is a lot of anger and aggression throughout the music as well. So you do get a good balance of both metal and goth here. There are places where classic 80's style guitar solos come in and sound very out of place for the more current sound of this music. Also, I feel that this band would be a lot better if they explored the uses of electronics more. They fooled around a little bit with programming here and it really made the music sound a lot better. It seemed more layered and varied. Another problem here is that the singer doesn't change his singing style from song to song enough. While the music changes, the singing sounds basically the same making all of the songs sound similar to each other. The singer should try different things with his voice because it's proven that he has a very powerful vocal range. The bottom line is that this is a very clean and well produced album with quality songs on it. But it will appeal a lot more to dark metal fans than anyone else.

This is a powerful and emotional album. It's very dark and heavy aggressive gothic metal music that is alive with vibrance. The music is a work of art with layering of guitars, drums, and passionate haunting synths that create the moody feel. The vocals are an extremely deep voiced male that shouts with anger and sings with harmony as well. Beautiful female background vocals also make an appearance on some of the songs, and help to add even more variety. The music and singing shifts direction quite often in each song. It might begin melodic and mellow, and then later simply explode into anger and aggression. I have always enjoyed this kind of variety in music, and this band pulls it off extremely well. It's good to see a band such as this one add so much emotion and creativity into their music. This is a very well done and quality album from start to finish. Some songs seem to go by a bit quick, but they are excellent while they last. This album is not very different from Moonspell's debut album "Wolfheart", but if something's not broke why fix it? This album is a must for gothic metal fans.

This is extremely dark and heavy goth metal music. The guitars and drums are up front, and so are the deep voiced screaming male vocals. But beautiful haunting synth harmonies play in the background giving the music a moody feel. The vocals also change and mellow out at times in-between the yelling. The music does take twists and turns. Some female choir style vocals are sometimes included in the background as well to give the music an even more dramatic feel. Each song is just as good as the next one with aggressive assaults mixed with harmony. Acoustic guitars and piano are also sometimes blended to give even more variety. All of the instruments are live, and are performed excellently. The singer has a powerful voice that shouts with intensity, and sings melodic as well. I could have handled a few more songs, but everything here is great. If you are a fan of dark heavy aggressive gothic metal music, this album is a must for you.
