Steven Severin was the bass player for the band Siouxsie And
The Banshees. Now he’s going it alone as a solo artist creating
dark orchestrated ambient instrumental music.
The music contained on this recording was initially created to be included
with a short film back in 1989. The film was banned due to its content,
and remains banned to this day. However, Steven decided to reshape and
remodel the original music as well as include new material for this
release.
What is delivered here are dark, cold and dramatic ambient instrumentals
that create a dreary mood. They’re a bit spooky and haunting, creating
images of scary sights and sounds. This is what makes them so appealing.
The music is well composed with a lot of shifting moods and emotions.
It’s the type of music that you would want to listen to while relaxing
to candlelight and drinking wine. It’s a calm music that creates a mesmerizing
and enchanting atmosphere.
Some tracks include electronic sounds that come and go with the orchestrated
soundscapes creating a dark sci-fi edge.
While Steven’s other CD “Maldoror” is good as well, I personally
find the music on this CD to be even more enjoyable as it’s darker and
more creative and interesting.
Steven is a talented musician really showing off his skills for creating
quality music on this disc. If you enjoy dark dramatic ambient music,
this recording can’t be missed.

Steven Severin was the bass player for the band Siouxsie And
The Banshees. Now he’s going it alone as a solo artist creating
dark orchestrated ambient instrumental music.
This recording contains music that he created for a play entitled “Maldoror”.
While music such as this created to go along with a visual show such
as a play is best suited for that environment, that’s not to say that
it doesn’t work on its own as well. But this isn’t the type of music
you’re going to want to listen to on headphones or in your car as it
will make you relaxed and sleepy.
This is dark and dramatic ambient music that creates a lot of mood.
It’s the type of slow moving minimalistic music that you would want
to play in the background and not pay too close attention to.
While this music is well composed, it’s rather sparse as well. These
are floating soundscapes without too much actually happening in them.
This is the type of music that you will want to listen to with the lights
are turned off while you lay in bed and close your eyes letting your
mind wander. It’s very peaceful and relaxing creating dreamlike images.
If you enjoy soft, light enchanting ambient music, you will enjoy this
CD as it contains some very well composed music that will take you away.
