Therion return with a slightly new sound. They were a very heavy and aggressive dark metal band before, but now they are a lot more gothic. So much in fact that this album could almost be considered darkwave music. The extremely deep and powerful male vocals from past Therion releases are now replaced by a combination of both male and female chanting. The female vocals are actually dominant here. The music is very dark, dramatic and frantic like what would be used in a movie such as "The Omen". Orchestrated haunting keyboard melodies mixed with guitar, bass and drums. Some tracks are melodic and cold while others are more heavy, angry and aggressive in feel. However, the songs don't seem to change all that much. Everything sounds a lot alike. This album will appeal to those looking for an intense gothic experience with some metal influences mixed in.

This is death metal meets goth. The music is created with heavy thrashing guitars, drums, synths, and raw throated screaming vocals. The music is very hard, angry, and aggressive. But the synths give it a dark, moody, and haunting feel. They are used extremely well. Some of the songs even feature haunting female background vocals. The songs will be going along thrashing like mad, and then they will change direction and get melodic, dark, and moody with the synths taking center stage. The songs found here are not repetitive in the least. Each and every one changes direction quite often. This is a very unique concept for this style of music. Every song on this album is just as good as the next, and presents something new. The variety found here is simply incredible. This band is very original, and deserve credit for creating such amazing music. No fan of hard and aggressive music should be without this album in their collection.
